Who we are?

Founded in 2015, we are a sustainable theme camp of no more than 80 each year, who draw from a growing community of almost 300 former camp members. Coined Rumi’s as a double entendre: for both the poetic persian cultural reference and the idea of 1-st-degree camaraderie (“roomies”). We are a camp that spans the ages of 22-71 and welcomes those of all backgrounds.

We're a returning daytime oasis camp, and as the name suggests, we love tea and poetry ✨ Our campers are a diverse bunch— we’ve got many-year veterans and enthusiastic first- and second- year burners alike, all a variety of ages, ethnicities, and orientations 🙂

We run an Iced Tea Bar this year out of our landmark lounge tent all afternoon plus music and activities. Feel free to look us up on PlayaEvents!

We’re strong proponents of being guided by and finding balance among the 10 Principles. We love and support each other, and live by Consent as the 11th Principle in all things, physical and non-physical.

In addition to our big tea lounge, we provide common area shade, a shared kitchen, camp dinner, water, and shower.

The core values of our camp are the 3S’s: sustainability, service and safety. We are not a plug-n-play camp — everyone in our camp contributes labor. While not required, we even have some members that also contribute to the playa beyond the camp, like by volunteering at Zendo or as Black Rock City Rangers.

All members spend at least 1 hour getting to know members of the camp before being accepted. We try to keep our service and dues costs lower than the average camp on playa by relying on network dynamics and social closeness to individually empower each team member to carry their own load. We don’t have anyone walking around our camp with a megaphone telling people what to do. We trust everyone to follow through on what they commit to as part of our Rumi’s community.
